A staff member of the Benue State Universal Basic Education Board (SUBEB), Mr. Orseer Nyagu, has reportedly been killed after he was abducted along the Agagbe-Naka road in Gwer West Local Government Area of Benue State.

According to information from family members and associates, Nyagu was travelling from Agagbe to Naka with two other passengers when they were kidnapped by suspected abductors along the route.

Sources revealed that he allegedly died while trying to flee from captivity.

Family sources disclosed that after keeping the victims for about two days, the kidnappers reportedly contacted relatives and demanded N15 million ransom for their release.

The ransom was later said to have been reduced to N500,000 following negotiations.

However, before the payment process could be concluded, Nyagu allegedly made an attempt to escape from the kidnappers.

He was reportedly killed during the escape attempt.

Community sources said the two other victims who remained in captivity were later freed and reunited with their families.

Residents and colleagues described the deceased as a hardworking young man who had only recently gained employment with SUBEB.

In an online tribute, Ukan Kurugh expressed concern over the worsening security situation in parts of Benue State.

He said the late Nyagu was the son of his former primary school teacher and urged authorities to tackle the growing incidents of kidnapping and violence along rural roads.

The incident has again highlighted the persistent insecurity affecting several communities in Benue State, especially rural areas where commuters and residents are frequently exposed to attacks and abductions.

As of the time this report was filed, attempts to reach the spokesperson of the Benue State Police Command, DSP Udeme Edet, for comments were unsuccessful.
