BREAKING: Shake-up in Nigeria Police as IGP redeploys ACPs
In a move to address the escalating security challenges in the nation, the Inspector-General of Police, IGP Kayode Egbetokun, has issued a directive for the reassignment of Assistant Commissioners of Police (ACPs) to lead the Intelligence Department of the Force across Zonal and State Commands nationwide.
The IGP, in a statement released on Tuesday, noted that this measure is aimed at bolstering the intelligence capabilities of the Police Force.
The decision reflects the IGP’s commitment to enhancing the effectiveness of the Intelligence Department in response to the prevailing crime rates, aligning with his overarching vision for the Police Force.
The statement revealed that the IGP has entrusted the newly appointed Senior Officers with the responsibility to deploy all intelligence-based assets in the fight against crimes and criminal activities within their respective areas of jurisdiction. Additionally, he urged them to prioritize professionalism and leverage their wealth of experience to fortify the existing intelligence framework of the Force.
“The IGP has, however, tasked the newly appointed Senior Officers to deploy all intelligence-based assets in combating crimes and criminality in their respective areas of responsibility,” the statement noted.
“He has further charged them to entrench professionalism and apply their wealth of experience in the course of discharging their duties towards strengthening the already existing intelligence architecture of the Force.”
