‘Alia does not hate Idoma people’ — Political forum hails Melvin Ejeh’s appointment
The forum described the nomination as a major milestone for the Idoma people. According to the group, the move reflects greater political recognition and inclusion in Benue State.
Meanwhile, the organisation conveyed Ejeh’s nomination in a letter dated October 23, 2026. The letter was signed by its Director-General, Hon. Freedom Bassey.
According to the letter, the APC state leadership, the party’s state chairman, the Association of Local Governments of Nigeria ALGON in Benue State and other key stakeholders backed the nomination.
The organisation cited Ejeh’s leadership skills and commitment to grassroots development as reasons for his selection. In addition, it praised his ability to mobilise and coordinate stakeholders across local government areas.
Reacting to the development, the forum’s coordinator, Israel Apeh, said the nomination challenged claims that Governor Alia was hostile to the Idoma people.
Instead, the forum argued that the development demonstrated Alia’s willingness to recognise and accommodate the ethnic group in his administration and political engagements.
“This development has shown that Governor Alia does not hate Idoma people, as claimed in some quarters,” the forum stated.
Furthermore, the group commended the national and state leadership of the APC for supporting Ejeh’s nomination. It described the gesture as a positive step towards greater political inclusion and cooperation.
“We sincerely appreciate the national and Benue State leadership of the APC for this gesture. We assure them of our continued support and commitment to working together for the progress of our people and the state,” the statement added.
The forum also pledged continued support for the APC and its leadership. It expressed hope that the nomination would further strengthen political relationships and promote the interests of the Idoma people.
The Progressives Local Government Chairmen for President Tinubu and Governor Alia is a grassroots political organisation comprising executive chairmen of local government councils across APC-controlled states.
Through its activities, the group seeks to strengthen grassroots mobilisation and promote effective local governance. It also supports President Tinubu’s Renewed Hope agenda and Governor Alia’s administration in Benue State.
