February 14: Buhari and the media hype of South West by Enenche Enenche

One fundamental ideology of the APC that keeps giving me sleepless nights, is the way they welcome and celebrate those who decamp form PDP and brand them saints immediately.
I bet you, if Dr Goodluck decamps today to APC, they would hail him and call him a saint. This ideology of theirs, is not potent enough to inspire someone like me.
Buhari wants to fight corruption, yes he may have the mind, but corruption itself is a systemic issue. Build sound institutions and systems and corruption would vanish from Nigeria.
One big question I keep asking my brothers and sisters in APC, who are the corrupt Nigerians Buhari is coming to take to jail? I hope Tinubu, Akume, Goje, Amaechi, even Niger state deputy governor that decamped yesterday and others are included.

What Buhari is enjoying today is the media hype of the southwest. Southwest has the media nerve center of Nigeria and that, no one can take away from them.
When they hype anything, the nation accepts it, the big players of the southwest politics know this strength and have aligned politics along this line.
Have you seen any governor of Lagos that is not popular? When a Governor in Kebbi construct a 50KM road and that of Lagos construct 10KM road, which of these projects would hit the core media nerve of the Nation? You know the answer… thats the power of media hype.
A comedian talks at Ladi Kwali hall of Sheraton Hotels in Abuja, only the audience in the hall gives him a standing ovation but a comedian coughs at Muson Centre Lagos, the Nation hears… that is the power of media hype.
Don’t mistake media hype for content and grace. They both have their place.
General Buhari should know this; my in-laws and brothers in Southwest are the most regionalistic people in Nigeria, using “tribalism” is harsh but it is not far from it.
You can’t change them, thats how they are and that is what makes them unique and beautiful.
Their loyalty is not to APC per say, their loyalty is first to the political powerhouse of the region which Tinubu heads before any other consideration… an average southwestener finds it difficult to flourish and fits in outside his region, even when he finds himself outside his region; he looks for his fellow kinsmen to bond. The Igbos on the other hand fits in outside their region more than any people in Nigeria.
Just like my southeast brothers; who, when you throw money in their midst you scatter them, my brother in the southwest believes he knows it all, he can stand praising you in your presence and when you stepout he rains insults. His mouth can be with you but not his heart… that is what make them unique and beautiful.
The lifespan of Buhari’s alliance with southwest is subject to the convience of the power blocks of the southwest.
An average Yoruba man believes a hausa man doesn’t know anything and an average housa man believes a Yoruba man is a betrayal. So, APC internal romance is built on suspicion and distrust… these sentiments are real and they live with us.
Buhari should not totally rest on the southwest media hype or the core north “must rule” vaccination.
The southwest loyalty can go anytime, it left Ribadu for oil wells in 2011 and Ojukwu for a vice president and commissioner for finance in the late 60s.
Dr Goodluck enjoyed the southwest media hype in 2011, this was largely because of the controversies Yar’dua’s health generated and the oil well bonanza her leaders enjoyed.
I voted for Buhari in 2011, but I have my reservation about him in 2015. His non patriotic and nationalistic stance during 2011 post election violence, leaves so much to be desired with.
Dr Goodluck has not steered the affairs of Nigeria to that enviable status, inshort I am not proud of the state of the Nation under him. Our systems have gone so weak and vulnerable under his watch.
In 2015, I am not voting, I don’t see that leader with that burnig desire of a new Nigeria in Goodluck or Buhari… I would support whoever comes out victorious, that is my duty as a citizen of Nigeria.
Nigeria is unique, our strengths and weaknesses make us who we are. Every region in Nigeria has their strengths and collective weaknesses… that is the beauty of our diversities. We can explore these qualities as we dream to build that Nigeria of our dream.
My next article; POLITICAL DOMINACE, “MUST RULE IDEOLOGY” AND POVERTY OF THE NORTH!
Pray for Nigeria!
