  1. Yoruba Nation activist Chief Sunday Adeyemo, popularly known as Sunday Igboho, has been released after two years of legal proceedings in Benin. Igboho confirmed his release through a statement shared on his Instagram handle titled “My Release in Benin Republic,” expressing gratitude to various individuals and entities for their support during his detainment.

    “I want to say a big thank you to all Yoruba sons and daughters all over the world for their love and support before and after the loss of my dear mother,” Igboho remarked, acknowledging the widespread backing he received from the Yoruba community.

  2. President Bola Tinubu is reportedly set to appoint Olanipekun Olukoyede as the substantive chairperson of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), a move likely to trigger controversy over the candidate’s qualification for the job. Olukoyede, a lawyer, previously served as the secretary of the anti-graft agency during Ibrahim Magu’s tenure as the acting chair. However, concerns have been raised regarding whether Olukoyede meets the statutory requirements for the position as stipulated by the EFCC Act, 2005.

    According to Section 2(3) of the EFCC Act, the chairman of the commission must be a serving or retired member of any government security or law enforcement agency not below the rank of Assistant Commissioner of Police or equivalent, possessing not less than 15 years of experience. Olukoyede’s experience in administrative roles at the EFCC may fall short of meeting this criterion, raising doubts about his qualifications for the position.

  3. A tragic auto crash occurred on Saturday in Orji community, Owerri North Local Government Area of Imo State along the Owerri-Okigwe Expressway, resulting in the loss of a female trader’s life. Eyewitnesses reported a heavy-duty vehicle colliding with a commercial vehicle known as Busimo.

    The collision was devastating, causing the victim’s head to be severed by the impact. Other passengers on the bus suffered severe injuries and were promptly rushed to various hospitals for medical attention.

  4. Alhaji Atiku Abubakar, the Presidential Candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party in the February 25, 2023 election, has conveyed his strong dismay at what he perceives as President Ahmed Tinubu’s inclination towards forgery.

    Through his Media Adviser, Mazi Paul Ibe, Atiku released a statement on Sunday in Abuja expressing his disappointment. He criticized Tinubu’s handling of the exposure of his alleged forged Chicago State University (CSU) certificate, accusing Tinubu’s team of altering records to divert attention from prior forgeries.

  6. Terrorists have reportedly abducted more than 30 farmers in the early hours of Saturday in the Chikuri community, situated in the Chikun Local Government Area of Kaduna State.

    A resident named Dogara Peter, who confirmed this tragic incident during an interview with Sunday PUNCH, revealed that his mother and sister were among those taken.

  9. The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) has clarified that, contrary to reports that went viral in the media and online, the late singer Ilerioluwa Aloba, aka Mohbad, was never arrested by the agency.

    The spokesperson for the NDLEA, Femi Babafemi, said, ‘We heard the unsubstantiated allegation on social media that Ilerioluwa Aloba, aka Mohbad, was arrested and detained by the NDLEA on February 24, 2022, and given a substance to drink. In response to this allegation, we wish to state categorically that Mohbad was never arrested, nor was he ever detained in the custody of the NDLEA on the said date or any other date before or after. Therefore, the issue of giving him any substance to drink does not arise.’

    It was gathered that the preacher died after a brief illness on October 6, 2023. This was confirmed by the ministry via a statement.
